There are a few things wrong with the Datsun needle data
that makes it less than 100% reliable:
- First, I've seen a few different sets of specifications
for the same needle numbers. In inputing the data that you see on the preceeding
page, all the specs I listed are from the same source. I can't guarantee
that the numbers listed are accurate as I didn't measure them.
- Second, I only had 6 different measurements per needle.
British needles are measured using up to 16 measurements (called stations).
The Haystack program generally has measurements for at least 12 stations
per needle. Therefore the Datsun needles listed aren't broken down as comprehensively
as their British brothers.
- Third, compounding the second problem, is the fact that
the specs I have for the Datsun needles are taken at different stations
from the British needles. British needles are measured every 1/8".
Datsun needles are measured in 1/10th's of an inch. When I input the data
into the Haystack program, I had to compromise. I input the Datsun specs
nearest to the appropriate British station as below:
Standard British station | Datsun station
- 0" = 0"
- 0.125" = 0.1"
- 0.375" = 0.4"
- 0.75" = 0.7"
- 1" = 1"
- 1.375" = 1.4"
